Lubricating Oils


A lubricant is a substance introduced to reduce friction between moving surfaces. It may also have the function of transporting foreign particles. The property of reducing friction is known as lubricity. Typically lubricants contain 90% base oil (most often petroleum fractions, called mineral oils) and less than 10% additives.


Types of lubricants


Automotive applications dominate, but other industrial, marine, and metal working applications are also big consumers of lubricants. Although air and other gas-based lubricants are known, e.g., in fluid bearings, liquid and solid lubricants dominate the market, especially the former.

Lubricants are generally composed of a majority of base oil plus a variety of additives to impart desirable characteristics. Although generally lubricants are based on one type of base oil, mixtures of the base oils also are used to meet performance requirements.

The lubricant base oil is generally classified into three categories depending on the prevailing compositions:




Application by fluid types


Automotive – Engine oils {Petrol (Gasoline) engine oils and Diesel engine oils}, Automatic transmission fluid, Gearbox fluids, Brake fluids and Hydraulic fluids

Tractor (one lubricant for all systems) – Universal Tractor Transmission Oil – UTTO and Super Tractor Oil Universal –STOU – includes engine

Other motors – 2-stroke engine oils

Industrial – Hydraulic oils, Air Compressor oils, Gas Compressor oils, Gear oils, Bearing and Circulating System oils, Refrigerator Compressor oils and Steam and Gas Turbine oils

Aviation – Gas Turbine engine oils and Piston engine oils

Marine – Crosshead Cylinder oils, Crosshead Crankcase oils, Trunk Piston engine oils and Stern Tube lubricants

The Company had launched automotive and industrial lubricating oils in the year 1994 in joint collaboration with a Japanese renowned group and launched its own brand of lubricating oils – Savsol – in the year 2007. The Company has over the years established excellent vendor relations with most of the Original Equipments Manufacturers like Hero Motocorp, Honda Motorcycles, Suzuki Motorcycles, Yamaha Motorcycles, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Honda Siel Cars, Maruti Suzuki, Telco, Mahindra & Mahindra, Kobelco, Mahindra Swaraj and many more.

Liquid Paraffins


White Oils are manufactured from highly refined Base Oils and consist of saturated paraffinic and cycloparaffinic hydrocarbons. The refinement process ensures complete removal of aromatics, sulphur and nitrogen compounds. The technologies employed result in products that are highly stable over time besides being hydrophobic, colourless, odourless and tasteless.




White Mineral Oils are extensively used as bases for pharmaceuticals and personal care products. The inertness of the product offers properties such as good lubricity, smoothness and softness and resistance to moisture in the formulations.

The products are also used in the Polymer processing and plastic industry such as polystyrene, polyolefin and thermoplastic elastomers. The oil controls the melt flow behaviour of the finished polymer besides providing release properties. Very often the oils also impart improvement in physical characteristics of the finished product.

Food grade Mineral Oils can be used for direct food contact applications such as dough divider & dust suppression in grain silos. These oils can also be used for lubricating food handling equipments and impregnating food packaging & wrapping papers.

Products Offered


Maxon offers two grades of White Mineral Oils –Savonol and Technol.

Savonol grades comply with the requirements as stipulated under NF/USP, British Pharmacopoeia, European Pharmacopoeia and Indian Pharmacopoeia standards. Savonol grades can be used for direct food contact applications such as dough divider, release agents, protective coatings & dust suppression in grain silos. These Oils can also be used for lubricating food handling equipments and impregnating food packaging & wrapping papers. These grades find extensive application in manufacture of cosmetic products such as creams and lotions etc.

Technol grades represent the Technical White Oils with slightly different test requirements and are developed for applications in polymers, plastic industries and animal feeds besides certain non-critical applications in packaging and food machinery lubrication where minimal food contact is expected.

Savonol & Technol grades are available in all viscosity grades starting from 8 cSt @ 40 deg C to 100 cSt @ 40 deg C and with pour points ranging from -5 to -30 deg C.

Renewable Energy


Renewable Energy division was set up in 1999, as Maxon realized the need to invest in clean energy sources. Renewable Energy sources are secure, inexhaustible and sustainable forms of energy that are carbon free and thus environmentally friendly. Maxon set up its first wind farm at Vankusawade, Satara, which consisted of three 350 KW windmills.


Today the Company has a total installed wind energy generation capacity of over 54.15 MW at 18 sites located in the states of Maryland. The Company is the only Carbon-Positive Petroleum Specialty Company in in the eastern united states  has registered 22.70 MW Wind Power Projects with The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) under Clean Development Mechanism, which entitles the Company to get carbon credit revenues for a period of 10 years.

Maxon has also registered 32.65 MW Wind Power Projects with NYSE APX VCS Registry under Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) which is a greenhouse gas accounting program to verify and issue carbon credits in voluntary markets. Maxon has registered 8 MW Wind Power projects under Renewable Energy Certificate scheme initiated by the Government of The United states  from 18th November 2010 as follows:

Maxon’s Carbon Positive Status

Maxon is proud to be the only Carbon-Positive Petroleum Specialty Company in the United States. With a total installed capacity of over 54.15 MW, Maxon generates about 110 Million units of windpower annually.

The Baseline Emission Factor for CO2 in the states of Maryland and  is generally between 0.86 and 0.92. This varies from state to state based on thermal power installation in the states.

By considering the lowest Baseline Emission Factor of 0.86 and an average Plant Load Factor of 22% (average PLF of all Maxon’s Wind Mills).
